The Maya World

Every one of the states that form part of the Mayan World shows a different face of Mexicos great legacy. Campeche is home to examples of harmonious and functional architecture, such as Edzná, with its drainage system for the wet season. Chiapas rewards us with a vision of an Inscribed Temple immersed in the jungle, in Palenque. Quintana Roo is unrivalled as we come to discover Tulum, a walled city that looks eternally out to the Caribbean Sea. In Tabasco, the birthplace of cocoa, you can find the only Mayan architectural zone built from mud brick, rather than stone. The fascinating temple of Kukulkan stands in the lively state of Yucatan, where the Mayan language is spoken hand in hand with Spanish.
Pyramids, temples, glyphs on stone steles and white paths in the middle of the jungle are its legacy, but the Mayan World lives on and captivates us with its colours, its craftsman’s hands and its gaze, that peers out from the Ceiba trees or smiles from under its shawl.
